There are a variety of drop-in mindfulness meditation groups in New Orleans, in addition to the NOLA Mindfulness weekly group. If you are currently enrolled in the 8-week MBSR course, please inquire with the instructor about attending other sitting groups during the course. It can sometimes interfere with the curriculum.
New Orleans Insight Meditation Group — This is a Insight meditation group, which meets on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m to 9:00 p.m. NOLA Mindfulness instructor Dan Lawton teaches every other week. The group meets inside Aikido of New Orleans, which is on the third floor of 2134 Magazine Street. There is a buzzer on the door.
Mindfulness Community of Greater New Orleans — This is a Zen group in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, which meets Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 8:30. Those new to the group are asked to arrive at 6:15. The group meets at the Mid-City Zen Center, 3248 Castiglione.
School for Contemplative Living Has a variety of offerings, some of which are mindfulness related.
Refuge Recovery — A Buddhist-inspired path to recovery from drugs, alcohol or other addictions. Meets on Sundays, from 7 to 8 p.m., at 4210 St. Claude, and on Wednesdays, from 7 to 8 p.m, at Cafe Mojo, 1550 Race Street.
